Summer Time in Morris
As we work our way through July and summer in Morris, it is clear there is a lot going on around town. People are active with their families and pets. Prairie Pioneer Days has come and gone and preparations are being made for the Stevens County Fair. Everyone agrees that this year’s crop looks very, very good. We are keeping our fingers crossed for a good harvest this fall.
Road Construction. The East 2nd Street Improvement Project is progressing nicely. Work down by the College is nearing an end and crews will be moving to Atlantic Avenue to start the push back up the hill on East 2nd Street. Sewer work always starts at the lowest point and works its way back up the slope. Key features of this project will be new sidewalks, curb and gutter, street, water, storm sewer and sanitary sewer. The project will be completed in October. The City will also do some street overlay work in town as part of the franchise fee fund.
Parks and Playgrounds. The City has a lot of parks and playgrounds, but they always seem to be busy. Every type of recreational activity is provided in Morris and it appears may kids take advantage of the programs. A walk around town will find some type of activity happening. A new fishing dock in Pomme de Terre Park allows one more fun thing to do during the summer.
Walking, Running and Biking. The fun doesn’t just end with kids participating in activities. People of all ages are taking advantage of the various paths and sidewalks around Morris. You see people walking, running and biking everywhere. The bike path along the Pomme de Terre River has the added attraction of wildlife. Recently a doe deer crossed the path with two little fawns. They were in no hurry because that is where they live. You see turkeys, rabbits, deer and pheasants. The air is fresh and the scenery is beautiful.
Home and Yard Maintenance. Summer time means taking care of your home. People do a number of home improvement projects and the lawn always needs mowing. The City needs everyone to take care of his or her own property. For those few that don’t, the City will step in and hire somebody to take care of the maintenance. The homeowner will then pay for the services. Always stop into City Hall or give us a call to make sure you have the proper permits. In addition, never dig until you call Gopher One Call to make you don’t hit a utility line.
